Christabell Nunez is the Founder and President of I Slay, a nonprofit based in Austin, Texas dedicated to creating radically inclusive spaces for plus-size individuals. As a plus-size Latina and former Mrs. Texas 2024, Christabell uses her platform to celebrate body confidence, community care, and representation. What began as a backyard clothing swap has grown into a movement — and she’s just getting started.

Anita Garza, Vice President
Storyteller. Representation Warrior. PR Queen.
Anita is the Queen of PR, and marketing ensuring that representation is reaching plus size bodies in Austin & beyond. As a native Texan with a background in filmmaking, communications, and nonprofit event coordination. She’s worked with prestigious organizations bringing powerful stories and communities together. As a proud plus-size woman, Anita is passionate about body positivity, authentic representation, and building spaces where everyone feels seen and celebrated.

Karla Rodriguez, Governance Director
Details Guru. Community Keeper.
Karla is the organizational backbone of I Slay, keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes as our Secretary. Karla believes in the magic of showing up, creating safe spaces, and reminding others they’re never alone in the work.

Jenna Amburgey, Treasurer
Storyteller. Connector. Systems Lover.
Jenna Amburgey grew up in the Austin area and has always been drawn to communication, storytelling and community involvement. After joining I Slay in search of connection and belonging, she found a space where she could both show up fully and help others do the same. Jenna brings a collaborative spirit and a love for problem solving to the board, where she supports the organization through thoughtful engagement and behind-the-scenes strategy. Her work is guided by a belief that strong communities are built through joy, accessibility and people-first systems.

Kristen Jones, PhD, Grants Director
Equity Advocate. Strategist. Change Maker.
Kristen Jones brings lived experience and policy expertise to her role as Grants Director for I Slay. Drawn to the organization’s commitment to inclusion and belonging, Kristen supports the board by strengthening funding opportunities that help sustain and grow community impact. She has led large-scale initiatives and managed complex grant programs focused on access, equity and behavioral health services. Kristen is passionate about ensuring that inclusive spaces are not only created but resourced to thrive long-term.

Vanessa Florido, Co-Chair Programming & Events
Educator. Community Advocate. Representation Champion.
Vanessa Florido is an educator and community advocate rooted in equity, compassion and representation. She joined I Slay in search of belonging and found a community that celebrates bodies, culture and lived experience. Vanessa brings her passion for inclusive education and community-centered leadership to the board, where she serves on the Events & Programming Committee and the Community Outreach & Engagement Committee. As a proud daughter of Mexican immigrants, Vanessa is deeply committed to uplifting underserved communities and ensuring every person feels valued, respected and seen.

Eve Gomez, Co-Chair Programming & Events
Community Advocate. Relationship Builder. Systems Thinker.
Eve Gomez brings a deep commitment to equity, advocacy and community care to her role on the I Slay board. She joined the I Slay community after moving to Austin and quickly became an active participant in classes, events and connection-building spaces. With a background in strengths-based, trauma-informed work, Eve is passionate about creating environments where people feel supported, empowered and seen. As a board member, she serves on the Community Outreach & Engagement Committee and the Events & Programming Committee, helping advance I Slay’s mission through intentional, people-centered leadership.
